Student Weekend Food Program
The Student Weekend Food Program SWFP) through Payson United Methodist Church feeds Payson children on non-school days during the academic year. Originally begun in 2008 by Payson schools, it found an ongoing home at PUMC in 2012. Over the years, hundreds of food packs have been distributed. At the end of May, 2024, 85 food packs were being sent home with children. Local school personnel help determine those most in need of the food packs. Each pack contains a protein, fruit, snack and dessert items for three days at the cost of about $5 per pack. Packs go out each Thursday afternoon. Payson schools are on a 4-day school week.
In 2023-2024, the SWFP spent $15,000 feeding children in need. For the 2024-25 school year the importance of this program cannot be overstated. Only 40 packs were given in the first weekend due to limitations of funds. Foods need no refrigeration and can be easily opened by children. For additional information call Payson United Methodist Church, 928-474-0485. For general information about the church go to the website, paysonumc.org.
Payson Helping Payson
In December 1991, a group of concerned Payson citizens met to address problems of housing and utility payments for low income and fixed income families. Many families were experiencing difficulty during the winter months. Funds were raised and placed into an account called “Payson Helping Payson.”
PHP was so successful in helping needy families through the cold winter months that a decision was made to continue this charitable organization in Payson.
PHP works with other community assistance programs such as CAP (Community Action Program), churches, Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul to aid qualified candidates. For more information go to paysonhelpingpayson.org

About St. Paul’s Outreach to Our Neighbors
While St. Paul’s is place of worship, our passion is to serve and love our neighbors! Here are some of the things we do.
We partner with Payson Community Kids by providing a meal once a month through our Hungry Lambs initiative. And not just any meal but the well-loved goulash along with fruit drinks, fruit and a dessert. Don’t tell the kids we blend the spinach into the dish. Seconds are always available.
In 2021 we looked for a way to support college students as they tackle their final exams. Munchie Bags were born! Just way to encourage students during a stressful time. And, to remind them that their self-worth is not measued by well they do on a exam.
And then there are the Quilts that go to folks facing difficult circumstances. Over the last 20 years more than 700 have been given out. We have received untold letters of thanks and words of appreciation.
Kaitie’s Closet is housed at St. Paul’s and 10 times a near volunteers from St. Paul’s and the community distribute used clothing and new shoes, socks and underwear to children in need. In 2023 KC served over 400 children.
The Rim Country Literacy office resides at St. Paul’s. In 2023 Rim Literacy, in partnership with Payson Community Kids served 87 children in the after school and summer reading and literacy program. They logged 1,385 hors of reading or literacy activities.
St. Paul’s does this in addition to pockets of support for local non-profits and world-relief.
And, by-the-way, we worship every Sunday at 10am and everyone is welcome!
